O embrião da Coopernatural foi a Associação Vida Natural, nascida em agosto de 2001, a partir do desejo de onze produtores rurais orgânicos de pequeno porte da Serra Gaúcha, de construir uma organização que viesse a colaborar na promoção da agricultura familiar e ecológica nessa região. . . Ela veio para promover e fomentar uma agricultura sustentável tanto do ponto de vista ecológico como sócio-econômico, procurando fixar o homem no campo através de uma remuneração justa e digna pelo seu trabalho. Ao mesmo tempo que vai preservando o meio ambiente para as futuras gerações, leva saúde para as pessoas que se alimentam desses produtos.
