Demirci, Türkiye'nin Ege Bölgesi'nde bulunan Manisa ilinin ilçelerinden biridir.Tarihİlçenin merkezi, eski çağlarda Lydia Bölgesi ile Misis Bölgesi arasında doğal sınır olarak kabul edilen Demirci Dağı'nın batı eteklerinde kurulmuştur. Yontma Taş, Cilalı Taş, Bakır ve Tunç devirlerini yaşamış yerleşim alanıdır.Hitit, Frigo, Lidya, Pers, İskender, Bergama, Roma'nın ikiye ayrılmasından sonra Bizans (Doğu Roma) egemenliklerini tanıyan, yeni yerleşimlerle gelişen ilçe, Anadolu Beylikleri döneminde Türk egemenliği altına girmiştir. Bütün Anadolu'nun Türkleşmeye başladığı bir sırada, Batı Anadolu'ya bir uçbeyi olarak atanan Saruhanoğulları Gaza ve Cihad geleneği ve fethedilen yerlerin fethedenlere yurt olarak verilmesi geleneği içinde, Demirci ve çevresi 1310 yılından sonra Karesi egemenliğine girmiştir.Karesioğullarının Osmanlı'ya bağlanmasından sonra Yıldırım Beyazıt, Saruhanoğlu Hızır Şah'a Demirci, Adala, Gördes, Kayacık ve Kemaliye taraflarının yönetimini bırakmıştır. Hızır Şah döneminde Demirci, İcikler, Borlu ve çevre köylerinde birçok vakıf yapılmıştır. Kültürel yatırımlar gerçekleşmiştir.Osmanlı belgeleri Hızır Şah'ın adından da çok söz etmektedir. 1410'da Hızır Şah'ın öldürülmesiyle Devlet Han'ın oğlu Yakup Bey, Demirci'de hüküm sürmüştür. Saruhanoğulları'nın hâkimiyetinin 1412'de sona ermesi sonucu o tarihten 1920 tarihine kadar, yani Yunan işgaline kadar Osmanlı egemenliğinde kalan Demirci, Saruhan Sancağı'na bağlı olarak 1595 yılına dek veliaht şehzadelerin yönetimi altında bulunmuş bir kaza merkeziydi.Kadılık idaresi 1754 yılına kadar sürmüş, o tarihten sonra Demirci, ayanların eline geçmiştir. Voyvoda Kocabaşı ile başlayan ayanlık yönetimi, Demirci'de belediye yönetimi kurulana kadar devam etmiştir.
