Detailed description is The department was started. in-1965.At. present the Department is running. four specialization viz solid state. physics, Nuclear Physics &. Electronics. The department was started in-1965with the intake capacity of 12 students and a specialization in spectroscopy. Prof. B. B. Laud , was the pioneering head, gradually other specialization were also started. At present the Department is running four specialization viz solid state physics, Nuclear Physics & Electronics.. . Today the department has separate building on the campus, 48 is the intake capacity & although specialization’s are same thrusts are on Laser Spectroscopy, Radiation Physics , Super ionic Conductors, Ferrite, Nanotechnology, Time domain & frequency domain microwave Spectroscopes, Bio Sensors, Fibreoptics, Fractals etc.. . Department so far has brought more than 1 Crore Rs. through project & to this date more than 700 publications in reputed national and international journals have come out. Recently the department is supported by FIST Programme of DST New Delhi & by various funding agencies like BRNS, DST, CSIR, UGC etc.. . Thrust areas of Research in the Department : . The research activity carried out in the department flourishes as and when a particular group puts the effort of pursuing the front line research inthat particular field. Many a times the constraints like perennial funding , equipments, library facilities, unavailabilty of the technical personnel put limits. But it is creditable to the department that, inspite of all these odds and along with teaching work a quality frontline work was always preferred by the faculty members by seeking the collabration , correspondance,advice, discussion etc. from the internationaland national scientists. Help from premiur institutes in India like BARC, TIFR, NSC, SAMEER, MATSCIENCE was taken from time to time and is being continued.More than 100 candidates have been conferred Ph.D. in the department.. . Collaboration with other institutes: . Teaching staff is having collabrations with the institutes like NSC, New Delhi, IUC-DAE, Indore, TIFR -Mumbai, BARC – Mumbai, DCEE- University of California, Riverside, USA, IPRI – University of Wollongong, Australia..
