Overview of the Department of Sculpture. There is an academic habitation in the university inside the gate no. 18, besides Jamia School, faculty of Fine Arts, where teaching and learning not kept only inside the classrooms but in outdoors too. There are lush green lawns huge beautiful trees and other shrubberies, one finds the canvases on easels, students holding brushes pencils and chisels and numerous sculptures spreading glory of visual Art, throughout the faculty of fine arts.. The Art Institute was established in1951 when Mr. Abul Kalam laid the foundation at Jamia. The objective was to impart training to Art and craft teachers with the modern concept and methods of Art Education. In 1967 the Arts Institute became a department of Art and Craft Education and part of the teachers’ training college. In 1980-81 it became the Department of Fine Arts and Art Education and started the professional courses in B.F.A. Painting, Applied Art and Sculpture. The B.A (hons.) course in Art and Art Education has now being modified to B.F.A. in Art Education to develop in comprehensive degree program for Art teachers.Later on December 3, 2007 it was declared as “Faculty of Fine Arts”. . WE PROMOTE. In the Faculty of Fine Arts or Visual Arts, we promote an innovative educational community with balanced expression, imaginative problem solving, aesthetic understanding, critical thinking, and creativity within a studio environment...The Sculpture as constituent part of the Faculty is a professional and academic unit of the JamiaUniversity. The faculty, administration, and staff are committed to creating a challenging, meaningful and collegial learning environment, while preparing students for careers as Educators, Artists, Scholars, Intellectuals and of course Administrators too. The faculty provides leadership in the Arts, and acts as a cultural center for the University, community, state, and region. . The curricular and extracurricular activities operated by the Department of Sculpture, solidifies the learning experience by bringing the work of our students to the society. This also is achieved through our annual Portfolio productions.. The Faculty of Fine Arts endeavors to be a distinguished institution of higher learning for Art education. WE ARE GIVING EXTENTION LECTURES. To achieve the academic objectives and skills of excellence, we bring together periodical, seminars, workshops and procedural demonstrations. Extension lectures and interactions are organized very often, where experts and teachers share their experiences and expertise with aspiring students.. TACTICAL PRIORITIES(for future). . 1. Recruit, retain, and graduate a diverse body of students that reflects the excellence of our course programs: . a) Develop approaches that enhance our ability to recruit students. . b) Implement an individualized mentoring supporting system for student advising. . c) Seek creative ways to enhance the diversity of our student body. . . 2.Dimensions of success: improvement in both the quantity and quality of the post graduate and undergraduate student populations; more robust retention numbers; increased diversity of students as reflected in population numbers. . a) Provide transformational learning experiences for our students: . b) Further develop a community of artists to interact with students. . c) Provide individualized creative opportunities. . d) Provide opportunities for interdisciplinary work by taking advantage of our unique curricular structure of our institution.. EXPENSION IN TEACHING PROGRAMS. 1. Measurements of success: the number of faculty involved in community engagement projects; the number of new co-curricular programs offered; the number of community members involved in Institute’s activities and events. . 3.Develop the quality of Departmental facilities to properly reflect the excellence of our programs by addressing the following: . a) Performance and gallery space. . b) Storage space. . c) Instructional and office space. . Measurements of success: the renovation of existing spaces; the identification and development of new presentation and gallery space; securing new storage space.. To promote our students for more research on their subjects we need at least (5) five more teachers to run the department accurately, since we are in accelerative movement that needs to stay integral. Although we can look forward to collaborate with any other department as well because our student’s art work has different subjects at their core, like they possibly need to know basic of Psychology, History, Sociology, Law, Science and Technology. With this kind of collaboration we can give unique and fascinating output to our University.. CURRENT PROJECTIONS AND RESEARCH INTRESTS. We look forward to start with Ceramic and Pottery Workshop, Automobile section for scheming and modeling new designs of Cars, Vans and other vehicles with the help of various vehicle industries of the country, we plan to create a unit for the Set Designing for Theater, Television and Film industry.Setting up a Computer Lab to involve students to understand the basic and complex design and also introducing new methodology for the conceptual and technical enhancement of sculpture. We are in the making of the plan to organize them with organic execution.. For metal kiln we are planning to learn more about the nature and execution of an Art work as well as wiling to research in some new contemporary art mediums and materials. To meet our goal we need to know through proper experiments and researches in proper guidance.. . NEW TEACHING PROGRAMS. According to need of our contemporary global society we can introduce some programs by including the application areas of Sculpture like Animation, Museum, Archeology and vastly growing Film and Television industry. We will launch courses as per the growth of department increases.. Teaching program can be made to train our student for fellowship and research in different countries for fellowship programs.. Looking forward to use waste material and found material and turning these into work of Art/ Sculpture.Paper plant can be set to reprocess the discarded paper.. FACILITIES TO BE ADDED. The central library could have more updated books regarding the sculpture department. The national and international Art magazines can be purchased to promote research and update our students.Mechanical lab instruments could be updated. Our department’s structure can be designed according to our various needs of academic course by an architect in the light of works executed in different materials, wood, stone, metal,paper to plastics, scrape to steel, so on and so forth. Studios are to be updated like Clay Modeling studio, Life Study studio, Drawing studio, Welding Section, de-waxing kiln, Metal Casting Area has to be upgraded, and Modeling clay storage area needed update and change.. The BFA & MFA courses are designed to cater the educational needs of a wide cross-section of the post-secondary and postgraduate students as its facilities permit.
