Die Judaica Sammlung in der Frankfurter Universitätsbibliothek stellt die größte Judaica- und Hebraica Sammlung in Deutschland dar und zählt weltweit zu den bedeutendsten Sammlungen ihrer Art.
Seit 1949 wird im Sondersammelgebiet "Wissenschaft vom Judentum" der DFG die einschlägige wissenschaftliche Literatur zu allen Aspekten des nachbiblischen Judentums ohne territoriale oder sprachliche Begrenzungen im In- und Ausland so umfassend wie möglich erworben..

Grundlage der Sammlung bilden die Judaica- und Hebraica-Bestände, die zu Ende des 19.
Jahrhunderts durch großzügige Spenden Frankfurter Juden erworben und von 1898-1933 von Prof.
Dr.
Aron Freimann betreut wurden.
Bis zum Krieg wurde sie zur bedeutendsten Spezialsammlung des europäischen Kontinents ausgebaut und bestand auch die Aneignungsversuche nationalsozialistischer Einrichtungen ohne Verluste..

Tragischerweise verbrannten bei der Bombardierung Frankfurts fast alle hebräischen Bücher, gerettet werden konnten lediglich an die 20.000 Bände zählende Judaica-Sammlung sowie einige besonders wertvolle Hebraica-Bestände.
Die Judaica Altbestände sind in einem von Aron Freimann erstellten Katalog verzeichnet, mit dessen Hilfe die sytematische Digitalisierung der Bestände erfolgt..

The Frankfurt University Library has the largest collection of scientific literature on the topics of Judaism and Israel in Germany.
Since 1949, relevant scientific literature on all aspects of post-biblical Judaism has been acquired at home and abroad to extend the special collection “Science of Judaism” - promoted by the Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany (DFG) - as fully as possible..

The stock is based on the university’s Hebraica and Judaica collection, which was founded with the generous support of Frankfurt Jews at the end of the 19th Century.
It was expanded by its Director Prof.
