Kuruluşunda; Ege Üniversitesi'nden, Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi, Hukuk Fakültesi, İktisat Fakültesi, İşletme Fakültesi, Mühendislik ve Mimarlık Fakültesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Deniz Bilimleri ve Teknolojisi Enstitüsü, Adalet Yüksekokulu, Aydın Turizm İşletmeciliği ve Otelcilik Yüksekokulu; Milli Eğitim Gençlik ve Spor Bakanlığı'ndan Buca Eğitim Fakültesi, Denizli Mühendislik Fakültesi, İlahiyat Fakültesi, Demirci Eğitim Yüksekokulu, Denizli Eğitim Yüksekokulu, İzmir Meslek Yüksekokulu; Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı'ndan İzmir Devlet Konservatuarı; Ankara İktisadi ve Ticari Bilimler Akademisi'nden Muğla İşletmecilik Yüksekokulu, Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi'ne geçti.. Yeni Kurulan Fen Edebiyat Fakültesi, Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, Sağlık Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Deniz İşletmeciliği ve Yönetimi Yüksekokulu, Eğitim Yüksekokulu, Sanat Eğitimi Yüksekokulu olmak üzere üniversite 24 birimle eğitim hayatına başladı.. 1983 yılında Atatürk İlkeleri ve İnkılap Tarihi Enstitüsü kurularak faaliyete geçerken Sanat Eğitimi Yüksekokulu kaldırılmıştır.. 1987 yılında Manisa Maliye Muhasebe Yüksekokulunun İktisadi ve İdari Bilimler Fakültesine dönüştürülmesi ile birlikte; Yeni kurulan Denizli Meslek Yüksekokulu, Bölgesel Kalkınma ve İşletme Bilimleri Arastırma ve Uygulama Merkezi (BİMER),. Ege Bölgesi Araştırma ve Uygulama Merkezi (EBAMER),. 1988'de Deniz İşletmeciliği ve Yönetimi Yüksekokulu,. 1989'da Muğla Meslek Yüksekokulu,. Avrupa Topluluğu Uluslararası İlişkiler Araştırma ve Uygulama Merkezi (ATMER),. 1990'da Sağlık Hizmetleri Meslek Yüksekokulu ile İlahiyat Meslek Yüksekokulu,. 1991'de Çevre Araştırma ve Uygulama Merkezi (ÇEVMER) faaliyete geçmiştir.. Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi 1992'de Ege Bölgesi'nde 4 yeni üniversitenin kurulmasına destek oldu.. Aydın'daki Veteriner ve Ziraat Fakülteleri ile Turizm İşletmeciliği ve Otelcilik Yüksekokulu Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi'ne bağlandı.. Muğla'daki İşletmecilik ve Meslek Yüksekokulları Muğla Üniversitesi'ne bağlandı..
