A Note from Mr. Clark. . Dear Hornet Families,. . To kick of this week, we discussed the word greatness with our students. We asked them to give characteristics of greatness as well as to think about people who they identify as being great. Our students came up with good characteristics identifying that people who show greatness have courage, always do their best, and push themselves to do the right thing even when others are against them.. . When two of our students stood up to identify examples of people who show greatness, I was both surprised and proud of their answers. I wondered if students would name famous athletes, historical figures, or celebrities in our modern culture. Instead, Trinity Ward said that our teachers show greatness because of their passion for the work they do every day. This was followed up by Julian Martinez explaining that our students show greatness every day because they consistently come ready to learn and grow.. . I couldn’t have agreed more with these answers. Our push in this Morning Meeting was to help students see that we all have greatness in us. This does not mean we have to be the best at all that we do, but we have to constantly show grit and toughness to keep growing and developing. Greatness, then, is not about winning but about those who keep pushing when things are tough and who challenge themselves to grow each and every day.. . Our challenge to each student this week was to “find your greatness” – a line we stole from a recent Nike commercial. I encourage you to use this same messaging with your students throughout this final month of school. Help them to see this as an opportunity to continue challenging themselves.
