Detailed description is Enterprise Lodge #31 F & A M The history of Enterprise Lodge #31 begins with the founding of Varick Lodge #31 in 1855. Varick was the second lodge founded in Hudson County and was named in honor of "the eminent Dr. Varick" its founder. Two years later, 14 members of Varick, plus two other Master Masons met to form Enterprise Lodge #48. The first meeting was held U.D. at Lyceum Hall, Grand Street, on January 3, 1857. A warrant was issued January 14, 1857 and the first regular communication was held shortly thereafter. Meetings were held every Thursday evening until 1883 when they were changed to Fridays. The first man to be made a Master Mason in Enterprise was John Lewis of Jersey City. Ten men were made Master Masons the first year.. In 1998, the Worshipful Master, WB Ross J. Rosales was appointed by MW Enrique L. Locsin, Grand Master of the Philippines to coordinate his USA visitations and on the evening of Aug. 31, 1998, for the second consecutive year a Grand Master of the Philippines, MW Locsin was received at Enterprise Lodge during an emergent communication under dispensation granted by MW Ross Van Ness Bayer, Grand Master of New Jersey, followed by public reception attended by DGM Hackney, SGW Tryon, JGW Chase, DDGM Wallace and brethren from other lodges. Another first in mid-afternoon of the same day, Aug. 31st, was the courtesy call made by MW Locsin to MW Bayer at the New Jersey Grand Lodge in Burlington, NJ. MW Bayer personally escorted his visitors with a tour of the Masonic Museum, the new Fellowship and Grand Lodge Hall, and the Masonic Home of New Jersey.. . We are bound together in a brotherhood that only another Mason could understand. We are determined to continue the proud name and traditions of Enterprise Lodge and keep the light of Masonry shining in Jersey City. . . Built in the 19th century as the Arien Hall. Renovated in 1930 as the Eagles Lyceum and the Elks Lodge. Now 85-87 is the Jersey City Masonic center, Home to Enterprise Lodge #31, Plaridel Lodge #302, and Mistletoe Assembly # 24 of the fabulous Fifth Masonic District of the Grand Lodge of New Jersey.
