Detailed description is We aim to promote fair trade as an effective way of reducing poverty. We also ensure the University meets its standards as a Fair Trade Accredited Uni! WHAT IS FAIRTRADE?. Fair Trade is a unique and effective way of alleviating poverty. It’s about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. By requiring companies to pay and treat farmers fairly, Fairtrade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers (think low wages, sweatshops, child labour). It enables them to break out of the cycle of poverty and have more control over their lives. Buying products that are FAIRTRADE CERTIFIED is therefore a really easy way we can all make a difference in our everyday lives. . . WHAT IS THE FAIR TRADE COLLECTIVE?. We are an Adelaide Uni Club that aims to promote Fair Trade on campus. Through this we also aim to ensure that the Uni maintains its standards as a Fair Trade Accredited University. This is an official recognition conferred by the Fair Trade Association of Australia and New Zealand. It was granted to us in 2012 and means the Uni supports and promotes Fair Trade principles and makes Fairtrade products readily available on campus (both in cafes and staff kitchens). . .
