Islamismus und islamischer Fundamentalismus sind Phänomene, die in islamisch geprägten Staaten und in den muslimischen Diaspora-Gemeinschaften Europas zunehmend an Bedeutung gewinnen. Besonders in Staaten mit laizistischen oder pluralistischen politischen Traditionen zieht es Jugendliche massenhaft in islamistische Organisationen, erfreut sich ein islamischer Lebensstil großer Popularität, werden islamische Utopien in sozialen Gemeinschaften als soziopolitische Gegenentwürfe erprobt. Diese Entwicklungen bergen erheblichen Sprengstoff.. . Auf Demonstrationen gegen den Krieg in Gaza wurden im August 2014 in Köln, Frankfurt und Berlin antisemitische Parolen gerufen, und es kam zu Übergriffen auf Juden in deutschen Städten. In Flüchtlingsheimen gingen gleichzeitig islamistische Syrer gegen Christen vor, und auf deutschen Straßen kam es zu Auseinandersetzungen zwischen Kurden und Yeziden auf der einen und sunnitischen Arabern auf der anderen Seite. Salafisten mobilisieren ihre Gefolgschaft mit Verweisen auf die Unterdrückung von Muslimen in Palästina und Europa und rekrutieren auch für einen globalen „heiligen Krieg“. Deutsche mit und ohne Migrationshintergrund kämpfen in den Milizen des „Islamischen Staates“, und Jihadisten haben wiederholt damit gedroht in Deutschland Anschläge durchzuführen.. . Gleichzeitig entwickeln sich weltweit Bewegungen von muslimischen Intellektuellen und Gelehrten, die den Weg für einen Islam eröffnen, der mit Demokratie, den Menschen-, Frauen- und Kinderrechten sowie humanistischen Idealen kompatibel ist. Ihre Arbeiten werden jedoch noch wenig rezipiert und sie stehen zudem unter starkem Druck konservativer und fundamentalistischer Kräfte.. .
