Detailed description is Der Fuchstanz ist ein Pass im Taunus, Hessen, Deutschland. Er liegt in zwischen dem Kleinen Feldberg und dem Altkönig.GeschichteEtwa in der Zeit um 400 v. Chr. besiedelten Kelten den Altkönig. Noch heute sind deren Ring- und Annexwälle um dessen Gipfelplateau herum in 798 Metern Höhe über NN deutlich zu sehen. Die beiden Steinwälle sind rund 980 bzw. 1.390 Meter lang. Schon zu dieser Zeit dürfte dem heute Fuchstanz genannten Pass Bedeutung zugekommen sein.Der Pass wurde auf jeden Fall seit der Regierungszeit Kaiser Vespasians (69–79) von den Römern genutzt. Diese unterhielten in der Nähe am Obergermanischen Limes mehrere Kastelle mit Vici. Die Römer führen schließlich eine gepflasterte Verbindungsstraße, die Feldbergstraße, von Nida im heutigen Nordwesten der Stadt Frankfurt am Main, dem Hauptort der Civitas Taunensium der römischen Provinz Germania superior (Obergermanien), nach dem Jahr 150 zum Kastell Kleiner Feldberg, dem höchstgelegenen Kastell des Obergermanisch-Raetischen Limes. Diese Verbindungsstraße führt über den Osthang des Altkönigs und den Fuchstanz, die Bezeichnung Pflasterweg für den Waldweg erinnert noch heute daran, ebenso ein mit Haderweg bezeichneter Waldweg. Über die Straße wurde Material für den Bau bzw. Ausbau des Limes im Taunus sowie Versorgungsmaterial für die Kastelle und Vici transportiert. Nach neuesten archäologisch-historischen Erkenntnissen setzte ab dem 3. Jahrhundert ein allmählicher Verfall der Anlagen des Limes ein.
