Juli findet zum vierten Mal das FULL SPIN Festival in Essen statt. In Kooperation mit dem Maschinenhaus Essen, der Folkwang Universität der Künste und dem Schauspiel Essen ist es den künstlerischen Leitern Prof. Thomas Stich (Folkwang Universität der Künste) und Fabian Sattler (Maschinenhaus Essen) gelungen, ein spannendes und äußerst vielseitiges Festivalprogramm zusammenzustellen: 15 Produktionen von international renommierten Künstlern, Kompanien und jungen Nachwuchstalenten - dicht gepackt und ergänzt durch Workshops, eine themenbezogene Akademie sowie Publikumsgespräche - zeigen ein schillerndes, hochkreatives Panoptikum der körperlichen Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten.. . Anders als etwa in Großbritannien, Frankreich, Belgien oder den Niederlanden ist das Physical Theatre in Deutschland ein bislang noch relativ unbekanntes Theatergenre. „Also haben wir mit dem FULL SPIN Festival eine Plattform geschaffen, die Szene endlich auch in Deutschland zu präsentieren und weiterzuentwickeln", so die beiden künstlerischen Leiter des Festivals. Spielorte sind das Maschinenhaus Essen, die Folkwang Universität der Künste (Campus Werden) sowie erstmals in diesem Jahr das Grillo-Theater und die Schurenbachhalde.. . Dabei reicht die Bandbreite der Produktionen vom ästhetischen Spiel mit Körper und Videoprojektion der österreichischen Kompanie „Liquid Loft" bis zur (irr)witzig-cartoonistischen Pantomime des Neuseeländers Trygve Wakenshaw. Duda Paiva aus den Niederlanden präsentiert seine neue Produktion „Blind“, in der er mit lebensgroßen Puppen den grotesken Verlauf einer Krankheit bis zu ihrer wundersamen Heilung zeichnet. Im Grillo-Theater wird der schwedische Choreograph Jakop Ahlbom mit der preisgekrönten Inszenierung „Lebensraum" gastieren - ein Meisterstück burlesker Komik in bester Buster Keaton-Manier. Die libanesische Künstlerin Lina Issa entführt das Publikum auf die Schurenbachhalde: In der anbrechenden Dämmerung erforscht sie dort in eindrücklichen Geschichten und Bildern die Beziehung von uns Menschen zum Meer, als Sinnbild des Ungewissen, der Naturgewalten, aber auch der Sehnsucht. Beginnend mit den realen Erfahrungen geflüchteter Menschen, die sich dem Meer überantwortet haben, wird ein Bogen zum antiken Mythos Atlantis geschlagen. Entstanden 2016 im Hafen von Beirut, fordert „A Ticket to Atlantis" dazu auf, an den Erfahrungen der Flüchtenden teilzuhaben und sich auf die Suche nach den eigenen Sehnsüchten zu machen.. .
