Detailed description is Helping take care of our furry friends. These dogs are in our local pound and with the limited funds, we need help from you! This page is dedicated to helping the abandoned dogs & cats that end up in the pound. The pound gets very limited funds from the city to take care of these animals with and has only one person that tries to do this. You may think it's not a difficult job to do but it takes a lot of time and a big heart. I was pleased to find out that we do have someone doing this job that actually cares about the animals & does all he can to take care of them and find them homes. He has picked up over 700 dogs since he started his job. Not only does he pick up the dogs wandering the streets but he also checks on animals that are in a persons yard or in a pen that are not being taken care of properly. He will issue a citation if needed and he does follow up on pets that have been adopted out or pets that have been removed and then given back to owners once the problem is resolved. Our hope is to raise awareness of things the public can do to help and to raise money so that we can build a better shelter for the animals, give them better care and have better ways of letting people know that we have these dogs available for adoption or fostering. The pound is always in need of food & bedding, preferably cedar chips for the bedding. At this time the pens are not enclosed and in the winter only a tarp is placed around the sides of the pens to keep out the cold. To some this may seem like enough but to those of us who love our pets, it is not near enough. Money donations are always great too. They help provide the medical care needed for these animals. If you have ever taken a pet to the vet, then you know it is not cheap. All dogs adopted out have to be spayed or neutered & have a rabies shot & that costs money from the funds. You also can foster a dog. That means you can take it to your home until it finds a permanent home or hopefully you will just decide you love it and want to keep it yourself.
