Online shop Melbourne designer & ceramicist, Glenn Tebble, has designed a beautiful, carefully considered range of organic style, modern, ceramic plates & bowls for food service as well as home kitchens.
.
.
GTH is a small, independent concern - each piece designed by Glenn is handcrafted by Bendigo Pottery, an old-school pottery 150km north-west of Melbourne (established over 150 years ago during the Victorian gold rush - a pottery of international repute, with the world’s largest collection of old wood fired kilns, having handcrafted stone wares throughout nearly two centuries).
All stone ware materials are Australian..
.
Each piece bears Glenn’s signature style - modern, organic with irregular shape & unbalanced aesthetic.
Glenn has 20+ years experience in ceramic design & teaching, specialising in table ware, working with leading Australian chefs, cooks, food stylists & photographers, food media, home cooks & designers.
You’ll find GTH plates in the kitchens of leading Australian chefs (Andrew McConnell, Guy Grossi, Philippa Sibley, Colin Fassnidge, Sean Donovan, Jake Nicolson, Troy Rhoades-Brown, Ian Curley, Matt Moran, Luke Mangan, Philippe Mouchel to name a few) as well as in some bistros, pubs & cafes.
GTH plates are being enjoyed overseas - at Jaan restaurant in Singapore for example..
.
The satin (not gloss) finish on all pieces is designed to give texture (like marbling) & to accommodate repeated use (i.e.
with force by the eater’s cutlery as well as the kitchen service & dishwashing).
The plates absorb scratches & acquire character with use (like leather).
.
.
Every piece is fired at 1300C - in ceramics this is very hot (most other ceramic producers fire at 800-900C) - this means the pieces are in the kiln for around six hours longer than if fired at lower heat making them more expensive to produce.
The investment is intended to make them more robust & less vulnerable to chipping.
That’s not to say they’re impenetrable - they’re ceramic & require care (some pieces more than others) but are more resilient than most..
.
The initial GTH range started with six shapes & six shades - we're now producing a new salt/condiment pod & a creamer/small jug as well as a couple of other new items.
.
.
The initial six shades (colours): .
.
ash (charcoal) .
earth(natural).
grass (green).
onyx (black).
sky (blue).
soil (brown).
.
.
The initial six shapes:.
.
the small 19cm plate.
21cm plate with lip.
24cm plate with lip (the only truly uniform circular shape, the rest having individual, unbalanced character).
25cm organic bowl.
27cm plate with lip.
29cm dinner plate.
.
Plates are made to order - there’s generally around a 4 week period from order to delivery..
.
See our photos on our website & in our social media feeds.
.
.
We’re open to making custom designed one-off plates..
.
We really love these plates, the product of Glenn's many years of experience of designing ceramic tableware for hospitality..
