Công ty The Goodyear Tire & Rubber khởi lập năm 1898 khi Frank Seiberling mua nhà máy đầu tiên của công ty bằng tiền mượn của một người anh rể. Seiberling đã đặt tên công ty theo tên của nhà tiên phong can đảm Charles Goodyear, người khám phá ra phương pháp lưu hoá cao su.
