They also had big environmental impacts. Today, these industries are shedding jobs, and the region has one of the highest unemployment rates in Australia. It doubles for young people, and for refugees only 31% have a job 5 years after resettlement.. . Green Connect set up in this context.. . Green Connect is a social enterprise – a different kind of business. We recover waste and grow fair food. And we train, support, employ and tap into the ideas and talents of former refugees and. young people. We do this with our community.. . 100% of our income is invested in these aims.. . Last year Green Connect employed 114 former refugees and young people, recovered 1,462 tonnes of waste, and grew and distributed 7,268 kilograms of local, seasonal, chemical free food.. .
