Deutschlandweit kann man Baltistik (B.A./M.A.) nur in Greifswald studieren. Zu Beginn des Studiums werden keine Sprachkenntnisse vorausgesetzt; jede der beiden baltischen Sprachen kann während des B.A.-Studiums erworben werden. Unser Blick auf das Baltikum umfasst sprachliche, literarische und kulturelle Entwicklungen Lettlands und Litauens. Im Studium geht es um Strukturen und gesellschaftlichen Funktionen von Sprache und Literatur, wie auch um die konkrete Analyse literarischer und sprachlicher Phänomene. Im europäischen Kontext führt dies zu kulturraumspezifischem Wissen und methodisch-fachlichen, individuellen Kompetenzen.. . Ausschlaggebend für den späteren beruflichen Weg sind vor allem die gewählte Fächerkombination und die individuellen Interessen. An der Philosophischen Fakultät der Universität Greifswald kann Baltistik unter anderem mit folgenden zweiten Fächern kombiniert werden: Bildende Kunst, Deutsch als Fremdsprache, Geschichte, Kommunikationswissenschaft, Kunstgeschichte, Musik, Musikwissenschaft, Öffentliches Recht, Privatrecht, Philosophie, Politikwissenschaft, Wirtschaft oder eine zweite Philologie wie Anglistik/Amerikanistik, Fennistik, Germanistik, Skandinavistik oder Slawistik.
