Detailed description is La isla Sentinel del Norte es una pequeña isla de 72 km² y unos 8 km de ancho perteneciente al archipiélago de las islas Andamán, en el océano Índico, administrada oficialmente por el gobierno de India.CaracterísticasSituada al este del golfo de Bengala, está a pocas millas del Gran Andamán. La exploración actual de la isla no ha sido posible en el sitio, debido a la hostil actitud y al comportamiento tan primitivo de la población de la isla hacia toda clase de visitantes y extranjeros.GeografíaAntes del terremoto de 2004, la isla tenía alrededor de 72 km² y un aspecto más o menos cuadrado. Alrededor de la isla, detrás de una playa estrecha el terreno se elevaba abruptamente hasta 20 m, y luego más lentamente hasta los 98 m, cerca del centro. Los arrecifes se extendían por la isla entre 800 y 1300 metros de la orilla. Un islote boscoso, llamado isla Constance, se encontraba a unos 600 metros de la costa sureste, en el borde del arrecife.El terremoto de 2004 inclinó la placa tectónica sobre la que se asienta la isla, levantándola entre 1 y 2 metros. Grandes extensiones de los arrecifes de coral que rodean fueron expuestos y se convirtieron en tierra permanentemente seca o lagunas poco profundas, ampliando los límites de la isla por todas partes alrededor de 1 km en el oeste y el sur, y uniendo a Constance con la isla principal. La isla está completamente cubierta por una densa jungla y sin ningún puerto natural. La barrera natural de arrecifes de coral que la rodea hace muy difícil la navegación. El punto más alto de la isla se localiza en el centro-oeste de la misma y mide apenas 98 metros de altura.
