Detailed description is The JSMC is an interdisciplinary Graduate School for Microbial Communication of the German Excellence Initiative at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. The “Jena School for Microbial Communication (JSMC)” at the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena was founded in 2007 as an an Excellence Graduate School and an umbrella organization for three Research Training Groups in Jena (ILRS, IMPRS and GRK 1257/1). The JSMC was awarded funding within the Excellence Initiative of the German Research Foundation (DFG) in its first phase in 2007, and in its second phase in 2012, continuing the successful integrative approach in exploring all methodological and theoretical facets of microbial communication.Today, the JSMC constitutes a lively network of currently 137 doctoral researchers from a broad variety of natural & life sciences institutes that make up the JSMC network, including institutes and clinics at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena as well as non-university research institutions.
