Being exposed to her mum and dad’s music collection featuring Alan Jackson, George Strait, Johnny Cash and Shania Twain helped Katrina’s passion for country music grow over the years. . . Katrina was born in Horsham VIC and when she was five, moved to the small NSW country town of Walcha, not far from Australia’s country music capital where the family moved when Katrina turned 15. Believing Tamworth had more opportunities for each of them, the move made even more sense once Katrina started singing. . . However for most of Katrina’s young life up to that point, she had a firm plan to study law but that seemed to alter overnight – being able to choose high school music subjects and the move to Tamworth sealed Katrina’s new fate. Living in close proximity to local and visitor favourite ‘The Pub’ (where she was to make her stage debut not long after) – Katrina was able to open her bedroom window and hear her favourite music live on any given night. With the singer/songwriter scoring 1st in ‘Course For Music’ each year while at high school, she knew she’d made the right decision. . . The now 21 year old artist started singing at 15, taking vocal direction from Tamworth’s own Ryan Sampson, Sally-Anne Whitten and Roshani Priddis. Not long after she started to sing, Katrina added guitar to her list of skills. Over the years Katrina has performed at the Capitol Theatre, Tamworth as the only country music artist featured at Youth Week celebrations, two years running. She has shared the stage with her vocal coaches plus Jonah’s Road and McAlister Kemp. . . The now Melbourne based artist sometimes feels like she is living two lives – by day she works full-time at a transport company, maintaining their entire fleet in order to support her music career. Katrina believes, “It's necessary to 'live two lives' as my day job allows me to provide for my music career. It's obvious that I want to do music full-time, but until then, I'm grateful that both sides of my life work in harmony and it keeps me grounded”. . . Flying to Sydney in July this year, Katrina joined Michael Carpenter of Love Hz Studios to record the five self-penned tracks that would result in her debut EP “Tomorrow’s A New Day”- citing Shane Nicholson’s “Bad Machines”, Sunny Sweeney’s “Concrete” and Miranda Lambert’s “Four The Record” as inspiration. The recording was finished in three days including a 16 hour first day! First single, “Don’t Turn Around” will be hitting radio on January 9th and tells the story of saying goodbye to someone you know is bad for you but haven’t been able to shake them just yet..
