Located near Ballater, Lois McCulloch Equestrian Services is a local pet/equine care service covering Upper Deesides animals.(Other areas by arrangement). Each client can personally tailor their animals care to suit their needs allowing the owner to take breaks away without worry.. Not only does Lois' Services care for other animals, but she specialises in equine care from backing/bringing on to holiday cover, vet and farrier visits, riding lessons, schooling, show preparation or just to be your own personal groom for the day.. . To get a little insight into my experiences and qualifications within the equestrian industry and to explain the type of services please continue reading…. . I have owned horses and ponies for the past 15 years of all shapes and sizes: from a Welsh A who stands at 12"hh that i have now, to a Belgian Warmblood who stood at 17"2hh. With being involved with so many different types come different experiences throughout the showing world. Such as showing in riding club classes, working hunter classes, in-hand Clydesdale classes, Highland ponies in-hand and under saddle and working harness classes .In 2004 I qualified to represent Scotland for the Scottish Endurance Riding Team, to do this I had to successfully complete and pass the vetting of a 30 mile loop with my connemarraX.. As well as my love for showing I am also passionate about teaching.. In 2012 I was a participant in the amazing Diamond Jubilee Pageant with three Highland ponies and a Haflinger to help celebrate all the Queens horses.. . I have achieved a number of qualifications these are:. . HNC Equestrian Management. HND Equine Science. BHS Stage 1. BHS Stage 2. BHS PTT. 4day First Aid course. . For 3 years i ran my small business in Caithness looking after client’s animals and horses whilst they were away on holiday. I would carry out any task my client asked of me from mucking out, turning out, feeding, changing rugs and exercising...allot like the services I am providing now.. . For 2 years I worked for World Horse Welfare where I worked with all types of horses and ponies. Welfare cases, such as severely neglected horses needing immediate and lengthily medical care and attention. Rehabilitation cases such as ex-race horses and Dressage horses needing physio treatment and too often completely wild horses that have never been touched by humans. So you can imagine the patients and time involved in turning these horses around to be fit, healthy and useful sorts. My own Welsh A is a great example of a successful case which I just couldn’t leave behind when I left. . As part of the training that World Horse Welfare provided I was lucky enough to go on a working placement at The Royal Dick Vets in Edinburgh where we covered the intensive care unit. Carrying out all nursing tasks, 2 hourly night shift checks, colic checks,helping grass sickness cases, assisting in the x-ray rooms, isolation unit and the procedures that involved as well as being allowed to watch surgery. An amazing experience where I learned allot.. . For four years I worked for Her Majesty the Queen on Balmoral Estate as a Stud groom. This is where my passion for the Highland pony is allowed to come alive, from breeding, breaking in to ride, right through to educating the pony to carry deer off the hill and all the skills that are involved in keeping up high standards and the enthusiasm for this rare breed.. . More recently I have set up and managed a private yard for a family on one of upper Deeside estates. Before taking a years sabbatical in 2014 where I worked on several of Australia's leading thoroughbred studs in the Hunter Valley and Queensland foaling down over 100 mares and working in the yearling preparation for sales, where I was a yearling leader for the famous Inglis Easter Sale over in Australia.. I also worked as a yard manager for a short time for Grand Prix dressage rider Emma Youngman, running her yard and exercising her dressage horses.. All before returning back to Scotland in late 2015.. . So there are all my experiences and now for the services i can provide.... . Holiday cover. Lessons. Show Preparation- pulling manes and tails, tidying feathers, clipping, help in quarter marking, a groom for a day at the shows. Lunging. Schooling. Breaking in. Bringing on. Fittening Horses.
