Stalin is the third child of extremely influential social reformist and five times CM of Tamil Nadu, Kalaignar Karunanidhi. His mother gave him birth on 1st March, 1953 when the entire Tamil Nadu state was under the fire of social awakening led by Stalin’s father M. Karunanidhi. Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin or M.K. Stalin has got his name after Joseph Stalin, the much admired revolutionist of Russia. M.K. Stalin was bought up like any other kids but he himself along with his family was unaware of his fortune. His early life was fun filled with all the activities and games a normal child requires, which is totally in contrast to his now public life that is indeed full of tribulations pertaining to his philosophy of reforming Tamil Nadu. . . Early education of M.K. Stalin was completed in Madras Christian College School in Chennai and from Presidency College in Chennai he completed his graduation in History. Since the early age, Stalin was a robust and forceful child and due to his father’s political involvement he started taking interest in politics at the age of 14 years. He campaigned for DMK in the 1967 elections. In 1973, the first stint of Stalin’s political career took place when he turns out to be a member of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s General Committee. Apart from politics, he was largely interested in movies hence he tried his luck in few Tamil movies as an actor in 1980’s and during mid-90’s he even acted in few serials on television. However, M.K Stalin always remained actively involved in politics. . . Stalin’s imprisonment under MISA while opposing the ‘Emergency’ in 1975 had made him a strong person and he got more determined to bring the much needed reform in Tamil Nadu. At that time he was just a lad of 23 years old who just got married to Shanta. In 1982, young Stalin has formed a brigade of youth of Tamil Nadu who collectively helped the needy people all over the state. He serves as the Youth Wing President even today. 1989 was the turning point in his life when he was elected as the MLA of Tamil Nadu from the Chennai’s constituency, Thousand Lights. Since then he was elected from the same constituency as MLA for four times. After serving the member of Legislative Assembly of TN for 4 consecutive years, Stalin became the first elected Mayor of Chennai in the year 1996 and re-elected in 2001 for the same post. During his tenure as the Mayor of Chennai, he became created standards of administration and reformed the civic structure of Chennai.. . M.K Stalin served his party in various capacities from time to time; in 2003 as the DMK’s Deputy General Secretary, in 2009 as Treasurer of DMK and he even won the general elections of UPA in the same year. Stalin has also acted as the Minister of Rural Development and Municipal Corporation during 2006-2011. But the most crucial post was of the Deputy CM of Tamil Nadu when he was selected for the seat after his father’s deteriorated health due to spinal surgery in the year 2009. . . Recently, in 2011, Stalin has won the Kolathur seat and is serving as the MLA of the area giving improved civic services to the people of the constituency. In all his capacities, M.K. Stalin has proved that he is the true ‘Crusader’ for the state of Tamil Nadu..
