Opsada Sarajeva trajala je 1425 dana, tokom kojih je ubijeno 14.385 ljudi, ranjeno 70.000 osoba i srušeno 35.000 stanbenih objekata. Ma koliko ove brojke bile stravične, danas možda već i nepojmljive, one ne mogu na pravi način prenijeti sve razmjere opsade. Opsada Sarajeva nema namjeru da bude ozbiljna studija o jednoj od najvećih tragedija u modernoj historiji Evrope. These numbers cannot describe how these days and nights imperceptibly stringed together, make us hear the fateful blast of a shell, the gruesome crack of a sniper shot, the howling and weeping, we aren’t disoriented from fear, with buzzing ears and dust in our eyes ... We can’t smell death, feel its touch in our endeavour to survive each one of these 1.425 days. . A book could be written about each and every one of these days. .
