The Enneagram as a personality typing tool allowed me to recognise my parenting style and how it reacted against my son’s Enneagram style. And did it react! We are similar in many ways and in fact are each other’s "arrows"!. . I was using a coaching language at work but not at home. I look back and think why did I think I could react and talk the way I did at home – which in some ways wasn't nearly as respectful as at work – and yet expect positive outcomes from my sons? At work I expected mature conversations, participation, agreements on behaviours and tasks being completed, respect for each other’s points of view. I expect you can guess what was happening at home!. . I found that knowing this and then using a coaching approach meant my son and I could connect more meaningfully and our relationship changed.
