Detailed description is A project to provide an amazing Christmas to local children and teens in need in Garland County. In 2012 my partner and I, teamed up to provide a more-than-amazing Christmas for children and teens in our community. We work hand-in-hand with local school counselors to choose special kids who need our help during the holiday season. We want to provide more than just a gift. We hope to provide an experience including our testimony in addition to giving these children their "wish list." It would be easy for us to give them something we think they want or need but our goal is to give them the things they have been wishing for in hopes that they will never forget that one special Christmas. We hope they can carry it with them through their hard times and know that there are people out there who are rooting for them. So, why do we do it? Take time out of our busy lives? Meetings? Shopping? Wrapping? Double checking? The fact is, I've been there. I was bounced around from home to home because of poor choices by my biological family. I changed schools at least ten times growing up. Some days we would go without. No water, electricity, heat, etc. I am so thankful for the local church families that provided us with clothing and food. We were placed in the state's custody at one point. I was 11. I went through several placement homes before I was placed in a loving foster home before my 13th birthday. They treated me as their own and showed me love not only through their words but through their actions. I can remember going to sleep the night before Christmas with a few gifts under the tree and waking up Christmas morning with them gone. My holidays were never filled with excitement. Can you imagine my joy when I woke up in my new home with a room full of gifts? Can you imagine how it feels to know that for the first time I was someones focus, someones concern? These complete strangers taught me about God's grace. It wasn't just the gifts- they showed love and support. I was given an opportunity. At this point, I could wear trendy clothes, be a cheerleader, in the choir, sports, and pageants. I could try to fit in- and I did. My partner and I were raised very differently. She was raised in a family that was able to provide her with everything she could need or want. She had a great family. They taught her about God's principle and taught her to love everyone as her own. They taught her to be a giver and to care about people with everything she has- and she does! That is why we make a perfect team. That is why we want to help the children and teens in our community. You can see why I am passionate about the teenagers. Their wants may be more expensive but I can see the impact we can make by providing to them. My partner, on the other hand, is focused on the little ones. Again, that's why we make a great team. We are committed to working as hard as we can to help as many families (over a hundred last year) as we can this season but we could not do it without your gifts, adoptions, time, and monetary donations.
