Early in 2015 we consulted a number of professionals and community services who felt there was a lack of support and resources for the LGBTIQ community on the north-west coast of Tasmania. . . A lot of them felt they were unable to provide the assistance that was needed and through these consultations we found a lot of LGBTIQ people felt isolated and misunderstood. . . We could see the need for a drop in center and by late 2015 we managed to secure the lower level of a residential psychologists building on the outskirts of Burnie’s CBD. This accessible, yet discreet space become the starting point for what is now known as Rainbow Connections. . . We have transformed this location in to a comfortable, safe space for the LGBTIQ community to come and meet with one another, access resources and safe sex materials. . . Rainbow Connections is the first of it’s kind to service the north west coast of Tasmania..
