In Australia services and support for families with children with a diagnosis of ASD is embarrassingly poor. There are lengthy delays for initial diagnosis and the number of appropriate programs and service providers utilising Early Intervention via ABA is limited and there are long wait lists.. . ABA is the only treatment for ASD whose benefits have been consistently validated by independent scientific research for over four decades.. . Access to ABA services, at a level needed to realise true improvement, ones that provide the support, education and empowerment for families are beyond the reach of most if not all families in Australia.. . And it’s getting worse!. . The latest stats on the growing prevalence of Autism in society is staggering. . . The current agreed global statistic is that 1 in 68 children will be diagnosed as being on the spectrum. However the US based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has suggested that this ratio may now be closer to 1 in 50 children.. . Just like in the USA, ASD in Australia continues to rise and now represents a staggering 31% of NDIS participants, making ASD the largest disability group.. . Any family that has a child with an ASD diagnosis, regardless of where they sit on the spectrum, know of the tremendous stress and pressure that the world of ASD brings, and the subsequent financial cost.. . These figures represent staggering increases with sharp spikes in recent years, conversely very little else has changed, if anything at all, in relation to services, wait lists and funding to cover costs.. . NDIS won’t change it, the government of the day (now and future) won’t change it, but it is time for change. . . That change needs to come from within.. . REACH Autism - Objectives:. .
