Uma experiência de vanguarda que destinou 500 hectares de Floresta Atlântica a serem provedores de nascentes, rios e duchas de águas cristalinas.. . Primeira RPPN do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, a Bom Retiro acumula experiências desde 1993, quando 91% da área total da propriedade foi reconhecida pelo Ibama como Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural.. . Pesquisas e projetos de iniciação científica atestaram a rara biodiversidade e endemismo presentes neste Santuário de Vida Silvestre. Abrigo do mico-leão-dourado, da preguiça de coleira, da onça parda (espécies em risco de extinção); além do caramujo megaspira SP considerado extinto na natureza; e da nova espécie de bromélia, Aechmea weilbachii, descoberta na Reserva.. . Hoje, a Reserva Bom Retiro é gestionada a partir de atividades com pesquisa científica, educação ambiental e ecoturismo.. .
