Detailed description is SO-TO is a 2 year project funded by the European Commission and under the Lifelong Learning Programme – Leonardo Da Vinci Multilateral project for the Development of Innovation.. SO-TO is the acronym for «Socialising Tourism» taking into its main consideration the Manila Declaration «...to make tourist leisure accessible to the majority, including youth, families and elderly people, by providing an exceptional economic opportunity». Following the first research steps in the project, based on literature, case analysis, study visits and focus groups, social tourism is also intended as a community experience, where the tourist meet the culture and social context of the destination and get in contact with people living in the area. The social tourism sector is meant as well as an instrument for the inclusive growth where employment for disadvantaged people can be promoted through social economy. . Through a wide cooperation with key actors in the tourism sector, the partners will aim to develop the main result which will be: «an integrated training course for social tourism» and secondary, to increase the knowledge on social tourism across the people involved.. Who will benefit? Tourists, who traditionally are excluded from ordinary tourism.. Who is involved? Four vocational training centres, one university, a public authority and regional tourist organisation coming from Italy, Spain, Greece, Malta, Poland and Romania..
