Pecan trees are native to this area of the United States, and Stacy’s cousin is a very successful pecan grower. . . Hence, Southern Sky Pecans was established, and the trees are grown under the Australian Southern Sky.. Background. David was born in Australia and met his American wife, Stacy, when she was an exchange student to the Riverland, South Australia. They were married in the United States where they lived for 7 years, then returned to the Riverland, where they have lived for the past 14 years. . . After running their vineyard for 4 years in Glossop, they decided it was time to look toward the future, and create a new and unique opportunity that no one else in South Australia was pursuing. So in 2007, they purchased their first 100 pecan seedlings, and have spent the last 6 years cultivating and establishing their pecan trees. It has been an extremely slow process, because to become commercially viable, it can take up to 10 years growing time for a pecan tree to start producing a commercial quantity of nuts, and can take up to 14 years growing time to break even financially. .
