The Sisters of St Joseph opened their first school in 1910 in Donnison Street, Gosford offering classes for children aged five to fourteen years. This school was called Our Lady of the Rosary and drew students from Kariong, Somersby, Erina, Green Point, East Gosford, Gosford and from Narara, Ourimbah and Lisarow by train.. . In 1930 a new school was built in Donnison Street and was known as St Joseph's Convent School.. . In the late 1950's, St Joseph's Convent School was very overcrowded prompting the Parish priest of Gosford, Fr McManus, to sell the Gosford site and purchase land bound by York Street and Henry Parry Drive. St Patrick's Church now stands on this site. A school was also built which was called St Patrick's, though the Sisters and many parishioners still referred to it as St Joseph's Convent School.. . Again, space continued to be a problem with the growing numbers of students so that in 1966 land was purchased in Melbourne Street to build a new school block - the site was to be a designated high school. In this year Sr Maria Joseph, the school Principal, went to the Catholic Education Office in Sydney to negotiate the names for two schools - St Patrick's Primary School and St Joseph's Girls High School.. . St Joseph's Girls High School officially opened in Melbourne Street on June 11th 1967 with 220 students taught by four nuns and four lay teachers in six classrooms.. . In 1975 St Edward's offered their top oval which included their library (now known as the Woods Centre) and a new high school was built around it. St Joseph's relocated from Melbourne Street to the current site on Russell Drysdale Street and was renamed St Joseph's Regional Catholic High School. The new school was blessed in November 1975.. . In 1995 the decision was made to expand the school to offer classes through to Years 11 and 12. The first HSC class of 62 girls completed Year 12 in 2000.. .
