Hi all, I'm Katie and welcome to Stepping onto the Spectrum! . Thanks for following along with our journey, there are some great things coming up and I'm really excited to see this grow into something special.. Stepping onto the Spectrum came about after my son was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Although I had some idea of what this was, I had so many questions, so many thoughts and emotions that I just needed to talk to somebody who could break it all down for me. I didn't know where to look and I didn't know who to turn to. I wanted to talk to someone who was going through, or had been through, this stage; the aftermath of diagnosis but there was really no one I could talk to. So I threw myself into every educational avenue I could and thus Stepping onto the Spectrum was born.. This program aims to be the link between diagnosis and accessing services. It is not in place of speech therapy or OT or psychology, but a program that gives you the information you need to get started with your life on the spectrum.. I am also a trained ABA therapist which is a service I offer as well as social stories, professional development for educators and family support. If you are interested in private aide work, this is something we can discuss also.. My background is in mental health and education. I have been a secondary teacher for over ten years, I am accredited mental health first aid and as I mentioned above, I am an ABA therapist..
