Detailed description is The conference offers a platform for BA and MA students to present and discuss their research on narrative and performative constructions of identity. “It's like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story.”. – Patrick Rothfuss in The Name of the Wind. . . The concept of identity is as central to human existence as it is complex. Notions of identity have constantly been contested in past decades and centuries, in theory and through artistic or social practice. Central to this conference is the underlying assumption that identity is a construct which is performed and narrated by and through literary texts, in social media, music and visual art. Constant negotiations, reiterations or subversions of concepts of the self in these spheres challenge notions of identity as fixed and predetermined. This also raises the imporant questions whether e.g. ethnic, gender, national and regional identities can be traced to an essence, how these different ‘types’ of identities might intersect, and how these questions are dealt with in literature. . * * *. The conference is organized by students and seeks to offer a platform for Bachelor, Master and Magister students of all fields of study to present their research and to exchange and discuss their work and ideas with peers sharing a similar interest in English Literary and Cultural Studies..
