Study German and German culture in one of Europe´s most beautiful cities – Dresden. Called Florence on the Elbe, Dresden is known for its Baroque architecture, art museums and galleries, green parks, beer gardens, and pristine meadows along the River Elbe. . . The Study Abroad Program of the Collegium Augustinianum at Dresden begins with a personal welcome from the director and a 5 day orientation tour of Germany and Saxony prior to arriving in Dresden. . . Our student exchange program typically covers one academic year. Alternatively, the CA offers a semester abroad program and an intensive 6 week summer institute in the German language and culture. . . Students participating in the one year and the semester abroad program may also opt to take courses in a number of subjects as guest auditors at the TU Dresden (Dresden University of Technology). After successful completion, students will receive a Certificate in German and German Studies and college credits granted for academic work completed at our institute in Dresden as well courses taken at the TU Dresden (Dresden University of Technology).. . Upon successful completion of the summer program, students will receive a Certificate in German and 3 college credits in German Studies from the Collegium Augustinianum.. . Participants of all of our study abroad program options may take the LCCI-GEB exam (London Chamber of Commerce and Industry – German for Business Examination Series. This would require an additional 20 hours of exam preparation and students would need to pay an additional fee of $600. This covers the exam fees, study materials and the test preparation course. Students who pass this exam will receive an internationally recognized certificate in German issued by the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry. . . Program participants may also continue/begin studying Italian, Latin and Greek while in Dresden.. . The CA campus is located in a beautifully restored building in Dresden-Neustadt borough and overlooks Martin-Luther-Platz and the Martin-Luther-Kirche which was built using elements of the neo-Romanesque and neo-Gothic styles. . . Dresden-Neustadt is known for its “alternative scene”, cafés, restaurants, small private art galleries, and clubs. The campus is within walking distance of the city center, a number of quaint parks, the River Elbe, and the Dresdener Heide (Dresden City Forest).. . In addition to the academic side of the program, there will be tours of local churches, cathedrals, palaces, castles and walks through beautiful Saxon villages and breathtaking landscape. . . There will also be visits to museums including the recently restored world famous Historisches Grünes Gewölbe (Historic Green Vault), a beer brewing course with tasting session in the oldest joint stock brewery in Germany, and behind the scenes tours of the Frauenkirche, the Hofkirche, and the Dresden Synagogue.. . Furthermore, participants will have the chance to attend presentations, workshops and informal talks on various topics relating to religion, German history (die Wende und die Friedliche Revolution), German culture and current events in Germany. Some of the guest speakers are daring individuals who, in their desire for freedom, escaped from East Germany before the Berlin Wall came down. . . As these talks are conducted for the most part in German, they are the ideal vehicle for helping students to improve their language skills as well as honing their intercultural understanding in a “real-life” setting with local Dresdeners from all walks of life. . . And that´s not all....a BBQ evening in the program director´s typical German Schrebergarten on the edge of the Dresdner Heide and visits to Saxon wineries round off the program schedule. . .
