He was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from Uluberia (Lok Sabha constituency) on Trinamool Congress .Sultan Ahmed is the minority face of the Trinamool Congress. He has earlier been a 2-time Congress MLA from Entally(1987–91 and 1996–2001). Sultan Ahmed joined the Chatra Parishad (student wing of INC) while at Maulana Azad College in 1969 and Youth Congress in 1973. He was District Secretary of Youth Congress from 1978-80. Sultan Ahmed was also one of the founder-member of Trinamool Congress in 1997. He was earlier secretary of Mohammedan Sporting Club, Kolkata, but after taking over as minister, he has been made President. Sultan Ahmed was born on 6June1953. He was married to smt. Sajda Ahmed, the couple is blessed with two children Dr.Taha Ahmed and Mr. Sharique Ahmed. He was Graduated from Calcutta University, West Bengal.
