Em meados de 1905, um navio que carregava vários animais e nele também cerca de 200 suricates filhotes para serem distribuídos para vários zoológicos da América latina. o Navio teve um problema e teve que fazer uma parada de emergência na praia de Sabiaguaba-CE, Na hora de parar, o navio subiu demais na areia e a gaiola com os suricates caiu e se abriu, todos fugiram em direção a mata e juntos! Um jovem da região cearense chamado Diego Jovino, os viu no meio dos mato e levou todos pra uma área mais segura, na reserva da Sapiranga, região de mangue, lá começaram uma nova vida, aprenderam a procurar comida, falar, se reproduziram e aprenderam a viver em comunidade. outros depois de crescidos foram para o interior, mas a maioria mora na capital cearense fortaleza!
