Detailed description is Welcome to the official page of Theoretical Meteorology Hamburg, here you can find updates on our future agenda and you are welcome to share your questions and propose activities. The group of Theoretical Meteorology of the University of Hamburg is involved in research on a variety of topics, including climate dynamics, hydroclimatology, dynamical meteorology, geophysical fluid dynamics, by focusing on the development of new numerical, physical and mathematical tools aimed at disentangling the complexity of the investigated systems. In particular, we are using thermodynamics for providing a simple yet comprehensive description of various climate regimes and climate phenomena.. . Moreover, we dedicate a lot of energy to studying the properties of non-equilibrium statistical mechanical systems, to developing new visions on extreme events, to analyzing the puzzling long-term memory properties of simple models, and of the climate system. recently, we have developed a new line of research on planetary atmospheres: we would like to contribute to the emerging field dealing with exoplanets, i.e. planets not belong to our solar systems. These planets are usually categorized in Hot Jupiters and Super-Earths; does this sound cool enough? . . The group has also developed along the years the only example of flexible, open-source comprehensive climate model that can run on your laptop, as well as on a supercomputer, Its name is PLASIM, and is currently used in more than 60 research institutions around the world, at no cost whatsoever. PLASIM allows for virtually adding/omitting any of the components of the earth system (atmosphere, ocean, vegetation and sea-ice) making it possible to perform a lot of conceptual experiments on climate dynamics. The flexibility of PLASIM makes it also suitable for studying planets other than the Earth.. . We have been continuously organizing conferences, workshops, dissemination around the world and participate to numerous projects. We are also involved in numerous teaching activities at BSc, MSc and PhD level at the University of Hamburg, with a special focus on international students.
