Trans7 yang pada awalnya menggunakan nama TV7, melakukan siaran perdananya secara terestrial di Jakarta pada 23 November 2001 dan pada saat itulah mayoritas sahamnya dimiliki oleh Kompas Gramedia. Pada tanggal 4 Agustus 2006, Trans Corp mengakuisisi mayoritas saham TV7. Meski sejak itulah TV7 dan Trans TV resmi bergabung, namun ternyata TV7 masih dimiliki oleh Kompas Gramedia, sampai TV7 akhirnya melakukan re-launch pada 15 Desember 2006 dan menggunakan nama baru, yaitu Trans7.SejarahTrans7 berdiri dengan nama TV7 berdasarkan izin dari Dinas Perdagangan dan Perindustrian Jakarta Pusat dengan Nomor 809/BH.09.05/III/2000 yang sahamnya sebagian besar dimiliki oleh Kompas Gramedia. Pada tanggal 23 November 2001 keberadaan TV7 telah diumumkan dalam Berita Negara Nomor 8687 sebagai PT Duta Visual Nusantara Tivi Tujuh. Logo TV7 Sendiri diartikan sebagai simbol dari "JO" yang merupakan singkatan dari Jakob Oetama, pemilik TV7.TV7 dan Al JazeeraTV7 semakin dikenal masyarakat pada triwulan pertama 2003. TV7 merelai siaran Al Jazeera secara langsung setiap harinya selama invasi Amerika Serikat ke Irak berlangsung melalui tayangan berita bertajuk "Invasi ke Irak". Langkah TV7 ini diikuti oleh ANTV yang merelai siaran stasiun televisi yang berbasis di Dubai, Al Arabiya, ihwal invasi Amerika Serikat ke Irak.
