O Centro Universitário do Norte (UniNorte) foi fundado em 1994 com o nome de Instituto Manauara de Ensino Superior (IMES) e apenas três cursos: Administração, Tecnologia em Processamento de Dados e Turismo. Em 1998, ampliou sua atuação ao criar o Instituto Cultural de Ensino Superior do Amazonas – ICESAM e a implantar os cursos de Serviço Social e Comunicação Social com habilitação em Publicidade e Propaganda.
