Instituições particulares, que já existiam em Pelotas, foram também agregadas à UFPel, como é o caso do Conservatório de Música de Pelotas, da Escola de Belas Artes Dona Carmem Trápaga Simões, do Curso de Medicina do Instituto Pró-Ensino Superior do Sul do Estado, além do Conjunto Agrotécnico Visconde da Graça (CAVG). A área agrária, de grande importância para o desenvolvimento da região, de economia predominantemente agropastoril, teve a importante contribuição dos cursos de Engenharia Agrícola e de Meteorologia.. .
