A Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, é uma instituição de ensino superior pública federal brasileira, sendo a maior universidade do estado de Santa Catarina e uma das principais da Região Sul do Brasil. Está sediada em Florianópolis. O campus da Universidade no município de Araranguá, localizado nas proximidades do Aeroporto municipal, foi inaugurado em 10 de agosto de 2009. Em 2014 foi aberto um novo campus na cidade de Blumenau.Em Joinville as aulas ocorreram nas dependências da Univille até 2011, transferido para o bairro Santo Antônio, enquanto o campus é construído no terreno da Curva do Arroz, às margens da BR 101. A construção do campus de Curitibanos também está em andamento. No concurso do vestibular 2009 suplementar da UFSC também foram oferecidas vagas ociosas dos cursos de Biblioteconomia e Química.
