Detailed description is Nearly 5 decades ago, a premier university of India, Panjab University, collaborated with a leading institute of engineering education in USA, the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, to set up University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology ( then named Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology) at Panjab University.. . UICET was located in a majestic building in the beautiful campus of Panjab University, Chandigarh. State of the art equipments were imported from USA. Professor R.E. Peck from IIT Chicago joined as the first Head of Department. The department recruited faculty with distinguished qualifications from India and USA. The Curriculum and Facilities were comparable to the best anywhere in the World!. . The department soon earned a reputation as the premier institute of Chemical Engineering Education and Research. Over the course of time, the department expanded its horizons to include post graduate programs in chemical engineering and polymer technology. An undergraduate program in food technology was introduced in 1999.. . Over the years the department has continued to maintain global standards of excellence, and the infra-structure has been upgraded regularly. Our faculty continues to be eminently distinguished with qualifications and enriching experience, from virtually all over the globe-USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Denmark.. . Our alumni today occupy positions of responsibility and eminence in all spheres of industry, academia, and government - in India and abroad. UICET hosted the Annual Indian Chemical Engineering Congress (CHEMCON) in collaboration with IIChE (Chandigarh) in 1977 and 1999. The department had the Honour of hosting the Engineering Section of the prestigious Indian Science Congress held in 2004.. . The University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology is committed to excellence in chemical engineering education as demanded by the raid evolution of the discipline. In the years to come, the Department will continue to nurture an environment for learning, inquiry and generation of new ideas – to aid the education of Chemical Engineers, Polymer Technologists and Food Technologists who will lead the profession, in the development of new technologies and in the service of industry.
