Looking more closely at the map I noticed that several rivers were fed with waters from this tableland environment.. The Wollondilly, Mulwaree and Lachlan Rivers rise in this region along with many other named and un-named watercourses.. For some reason I became captivated with the thought of learning more about the Lachlan River in particular, as it travels in a different direction to the other two rivers.. Readers may be interested to learn that the source waters of the Lachlan River commence from a series of wetlands in the Breadalbane Plains, with the river ending in a network of wetlands or swamps known as the Great Cumbung Swamp in South Western NSW.. Subsequently, having recently visited numerous small towns and villages in the Upper Lachlan Region I "discovered" a wealth of history associated with the early establishment of these communities..
