Leinster, Ireland - A91N8CP

Detailed description is Visual Artists Ireland works to assist local community groups to become self-sustaining by encouraging self-organisation and information & skills sharing. A common complaint that we receive is the isolation that visual artists feel. Whether in cities, towns, or villages, the same phrase is used. This is often accompanied by a lack of knowledge of other visual artists working in the area and the difficulties when not living in one of the larger cities of finding supports or information about local opportunities. In direct response to this we have created a range of support services that are delivered across Ireland. The programme normally seeks out existing artists' networks or informal gatherings and assists them to broaden their engagement with local artists. Where this is not possible we look at introducing artists to each other in an area with a view to setting up a group.. . The delivery is based on a mix of services which include: networking, professional development, presentations by artists or other key experts, and details about on-going progress in terms of local and national supports. The service is loosely termed The Common Room Café, an idea that came out of our first national day for Visual Artists in 2012 - Get Together. During that day we created what we envisioned as a form of community market place where people could meet fellow artists, arts organisations, and experts to find out more about each other and the community in which we live.. . Our objective is to make each group self-sustaining by encouraging self-organisation with the full knowledge that Visual Artists Ireland will offer administrative and logistical supports when necessary. The existing groups and other visual artists networks around Ireland gather each year at Get Together which gives an opportunity for wider discussion about evolution, sustainability, as well as the on-going issues at a local level that are common around the country.
