Detailed description is UN Security Council Resolution 1325: ENDING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN. The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom is spearheading a national campaign human trafficking and women's rights These issuesappear as themes in the feature length action film "The Whistleblower." The film exposes the true story of a human trafficking ring in postwar Bosnia in which employees of DYNCORP, a US military contractor, were directly involved. The current Secretary-General of WILPF, Madeleine Rees (depicted in the film by Vanessa Redgrave), played a major role in revealing this scandal as part of her previous position with the UN High Commission on Refugees. As the film reveals, under the rule of diplomatic immunity, the traffickers were only lightly reprimanded--some were sent out of Bosnia but continued their employment with the company.. . US WILPF hopes that WILPF branches, civil society organizations, as well as individuals (such as yourself!) will use his film to raise awareness of human trafficking and to participate with key policy makers in the development for a National Action Plan (NAP)for United Nation’s Security Council Resolution 1325 (SCR 1325) This resolution is the first of it’s kind to address the necessity of female perspectives in high-level decision making pertaining to matters of peace and security. . . Learn more about WILPF here: www.wilpf.org . . A U.S. SCR 1325 NAP would require the US government to hold parties responsible for the actions of the DynCorp contractors by upholding human rights treaties such as the Convention to End All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), establishing gender sensitivity training for members in our security sector engaging in peacekeeping, including private contractors. Civil Society input is integral to the development of a National Action Plan, so please take a moment to visit www.surveymonkey.com/womenpeacesecurity and tell us what security means to you.. . Your responses will be shared with members of the Department of State and Department of Defense and will help shape the domestic implementation of SCR 1325- which has the potential of transforming our governments approach to matters of peace and security.. . We sincerely appreciate your feedback on this important initiative, and encourage you to speak up and help end violence against women once and for all. . . . . *** HOW CIVIL SOCIETY (YOU!!!) UNSCR1325 calls upon everyone who is involved in peace, security, and development to ensure that women participate actively in conflict prevention, peace negotiations and reconstruction. It sheds light on existing disparities between males and females in high-level decision making positions, and emphasizes the importance of introducing gender perspective to all levels of policy reform in conflict areas as well as within the United States. . . Although UNSCR 1325 has been advocated for by prominent US lawmakers such as Senator John Kerry and Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, we have yet to develop a viable National Action Plan (NAP) to implement UNSCR 1325 into our political agenda. UNSCR 1325 has proven to be an essential facet of improving Human Security in all of it's forms- not only within the presence of armed conflict but also in regards to social and human development. . .
