İZGAZ 15.10.1992 yılında İzmit Büyükşehir Belediyesi öncülüğünde kuruldu. 1994 yılında Bakanlar Kurulu Kararı ile İzmit Büyükşehir Belediyesi sınırları içinde doğal gaz tesisler kurmak, doğal gaz dağıtmak ve satmak konusunda yetki verildi.. . 2004 tarihinde EPDK 5216 sayılı Büyükşehir Kanunu’na istinaden İZGAZ’ın yetki sınırlarını Kocaeli ilinin Gebze ve Karamürsel hariç tamamına genişletti. 26 Nisan 2005 tarihinde BOTAŞ, Kocaeli’de kendisine ait olan sanayiye doğal gaz verme yetkisini İZGAZ’a devretti. 2009 yılının başında GDF SUEZ Gruba katılan ve Gebze ve Karamürsel dışında tüm Kocaeli’ye gaz arz eden İZGAZ GDF SUEZ, Türkiye’nin can damarı Kocaeli sanayisine ve yaklaşık 300.000 konut müşterisine 10 adet RMS-A, 111 adet müşteri istasyonu, 85 adet bölge regülatörü ve 3353 km doğal gaz şebekesiyle hizmet vermektedir.. . İZGAZ GDF SUEZ, dağıtım şebekesini Kocaeli’nin köylerine varıncaya dek genişletmektedir.
