FESTIVE: Paddy Daly outside his home, wearing the barbed wire that reminds him how lucky he is
I notice a container full of exotic flours, brown glass bottles of 'Pure Organic Vanilla Essence' and 'Lemon Oil'. It's a sight to elate. But the one thing I cannot keep my eyes off is the ring of barbed wire hanging off a chain on his neck.
It is startling, unsettling. So much so that I don't mention it at first. We talk about food, nutmeg and umami flavours and leave the elephant in the room rest for a while. It's way too early for sorrow.
