Ive come to guyana to see how decades of racial tensions have shaped this nations politics. Hello. Tunisia is just one attack away from collapsing. That was the stark warning from the president who has announced a state of emergency. It follows the murder of 38 Foreign Tourists at a beach resort eight days ago. The president said that the Emergency Powers were needed to maintain security and safety. Announcing the emergencyier that tunisia is now in a state of war. The Islamic State carries the black flag and wants to establish a caliphate. There is no country in our region or in europe that is free from terrorism today. The state of emergenci announced by the tunisian comes a week after the beach massacre. 38 tourists died. 30 of them from britain. The new emergency legislation will give the tunisian government more flexibility. At the same time will hand the army and police more authority. Also restricts the right to public assembly. The state of emergency is being brought into force as a Tunisian Security forces continue to track down other militants involved in organizing and coordinating the attack. The suspect interviewed by police said that the gunman was just one member of the sleeper cell. Part of the network believed to stretch london to tunisia and on to libya. The president has openly criticized the Security Forces for their delay in responding to the shootings and has made a public promise on friday to guarantee the safety of future visitors to tunisia. The state of emergency is something that is quite legitimate to impose in the situation. The problem is that state of emergency in such a new and young democracy is a double edged spatter. It is going to stop to turn certain extent and play into the hands of those who advocated to the police state we had before 2011. The declaration of emergency comes on the day the last of britains 30 dead were finally flown home. This is not the first time that tunisia has been under the state of emergency. One was declared in 2011 and remained in place until 2014. It gives exceptional power to the government. It includes the ability to control the movement of people and their cause. It bans strikes and demonstrations it also gives officials the power to control the press, radio and television. Joining us now is reporter who is usually in tunisia. A number of officials have been sacked. Partly thes are why the state of emergency has been happen something because of the criticism that came from the reaction of the government and also the Security Forces post attack in march. That was the attack on the museum and how slow they were to react in spite evidence that there was an attack eminent. Maybe not on the hotel but some sort of attack. They have been taking action. How are ordinary tunisians feel about this . Some will welcome it. They will efeel that its needed to deal with the problem. Theyll feel that the issue of tunisia going to fight abroad has not been dealt with. Also the issue of mosques and extreme preachers who have been preaching hate in the past four years nothing has been done about that. Theyll want more security to feel safer but at the same time there is that worry that underlying worry about going back to the days of police state, dictatorship, decades that people suffered under that dictatorship. These powers are so strong that people may fear that they may lead to union rights abuses and possibly the radicalization of people who feel theyve been targeted unfairly. He was talking about the reconciliation between parts of tunisia that are divided. This is one of the first times ive heard him in particular talking about this economic and development divide between the interior parts of the country and the coastal parts where the people are wealthier, where there are more jobs. If you look at the two attackers who carried out the attack at bardo. They were from the interior of the country. The attacker here was also from the interior of the country. Yes they came from middle class families and they were educated, but this divide has led to the crucial problem of radical indication and young people feeling they have no hope in their country. They have to go with economic migrants in europe or perhaps go to places like syria, iraq and libya and take up arms to fight. Thank you. Now around nine hours time polls will open as greek Voters Decide whether or not to accept a bail out proposal put forward by lenders who are opened billions by the country. The voting gets under way 7 00 a. M. Local time with preliminary results expected the same answering. Polls are suggests that the yes and no side are still fleck and neck and the result is going to be too close to call. Voters in greece will vote on the referendum, but the Younger Generation feel some bitterness that the debt that was begun before they were born now has fall no one their lapse. I met with olga outside of the hotel where she worked until it shut down a week ago and she was fired. Three years here. Its a family. Olga like many of her generation is struggling to make sense of her countrys sudden referendum. I feel sad because i see our society flit split in two. Some say yes and some very shroudly say no. Thats not right. We know for sure that the fall out of a yes vote will be a situation even worse than we had before. And by saying no there is the fear of uncertainty. We dont know what will happen the next day or how we will deal with it. Far cuss marcus is a graduate who knows hell be voting yes but he knows the choice is not an easy one. I think voting yes is a last chance to bring sanity back at the table. The no, what do you think that will bring . You know our government is claiming that within 48 hours theyre going to go back and sign a deal. I highly doubt that. I cant see where is the credibility because credibility has been lost from all sides. Marcus and olga are among a generation that did nothing to cause their countrys problems but some how must carve a future out. Yes its an overworded question about lending proposals that expired last week that dont exactly exist any more and it could turn out to be a referendum on the future of this government but make no mistake an overwhelming number of greeks on both sides of the question do you want the country to remain inside the lure row zone. But time is not on their side. Within days if the Bank Closures persist companies could shut down banks themselves may shut down. Greece gives us hope. All the young people. We have our dreams. I dont think any one of us will stop dreaming. In the end whether the euro goes on or the drachma returns hope is one greek currency more valuable than any other. Joining us live from athens is senior lecturer at the university of edinburgh and thank you so much for being with us. How much is sundays referendum dominating the conversation that youre holding with your greek family and your greek friends . Totally. As can be expected we discuss nothing else. Also when i walk just in the streets and i overhear conversation its always about tourists as well. Yes. Is there a lot of confusion though about what your vote, whether its no or yes might actually mean for the way forward for the country. Nothing is concern whether greece votes yes or no, isnt it . If i understood your question correctly, yes interest is uncertainty but most people will be voting tomorrow and as you know last night we had two rallies here in athens. We had tremendous prono rally right before the parliament, and moore modest in terms of attendance for yes rally somewhere in the city center as well. If we are to get the indication of how people think it becomes obvious there is going to be strong support to austerity. Yes to europe. Well, all the polls are showing that its neck and neck with both the know and the yes vote at the moment. How do you feel about the way the greek government has handle ed its negotiations with the creditors. Some say that Prime Minister tsipras has been gamble with greeces future by holding this referendum. First of all, yes i also think that it would be a different outcome. I dont think anybody is gambling certainly the greek government. At some point they felt they could not sign the proposals. They did the right thing. They brought this decision to the people its democratic right to have this referendum, and for me, yes, it was the right choice. There is no gambling here. Really good to get your thoughts. Thank you. Egyptian president elsisi has been visiting troops in the northern sinai where some of the broodiest fighting that has taken place in years.
