The change is in response to mayors being flooded with verification requests.
Shimizu said a mayor’s verification from another agency that was used in the past, even if it isn't addressed to Rev and Tax, will be accepted as long as the applicant is listed as a member of the same household and it's from last year or this year.
An original document isn't necessary and a copy will be accepted. Emails will be accepted as well, but only directly from a taxpayer.
“We will be receiving them electronically, but likely we are going to be requiring it from the taxpayers themselves,” Shimizu said.
