Allentown raises pay for lifeguards as Lehigh Valley scrambles with shortage that is jeopardizing pool openings

As the region faces a lifeguard shortage that is affecting the opening of some pools, Allentown is raising the starting pay of lifeguards 17% to meet staffing requirements for the June 19 opening of Cedar Beach Pool and Mack Pool.
